South Carolina Ranks 7th In Federal Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment

Over 280 thousand South Carolinians selected or were automatically re-enrolled in individual health insurance plans through HealthCare.gov, the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, from November 1 – December 15. South Carolina had the 7th highest enrollment during that period of all 33 states that use the federal program.
“The SC Primary Health Care Association (SCPHCA), insurance brokers and insurance companies are to be commended for informing the public about the quality health insurance plans that are available in the Marketplace and how increased premium subsidies have made plans very affordable,” said Frank Knapp Jr., President and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce (SCSBCC).

SCSBCC is working with the SCPHCA on that organization’s Navigator Program, which has 16 navigators statewide, and is reaching out to small business owners to let them know how federal rule changes have now made premium assistance available to them.
“We are having a lot of success stories of small business owners having access to affordable health insurance through the Marketplace for the first time,” said Knapp. “Not only are small business owners saving money on good health insurance, but their employees are doing the same.”

The Open Enrollment period for the Marketplace ends January 15th. Small business owners are encouraged to reach out the SCSBCC (803-252-5733) to learn more about the Marketplace, plans offered, and premiums as well as getting enrollment assistance.
