FLORENCE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
At 10:00 AM on September 22, 2021 Florence County School District Four's Board gathered for a press conference at the State House. These board and community members chartered a bus in threatening weather to rally for their school and district. They are serious about their aim to save Timmonsville High School!
The Board joined together for this press conference to make several asks of State Superintendent Molly Spearman:
1. To keep Timmonsville High School open
2. To stop the unlawful absorbing/consolidation of Florence Four with Florence One
3. To return control of the district over to the lawfully elected local school board
4. To use the resources-financial, human. and material to make Florence Four whole in the way the South Carolina Department of Education has systematically dismantled the operations of Florence Four
5. To stop the drain of students from Florence Four to Florence One that has been coordinated, in a targeted fashion, between the SC Department of Education and Florence One to destroy Florence Four
6. To be an honest partner in collaboration with Florence County School District Four
"We believe Superintendent Spearman's attempt to close Timmonsville High School is unlawful like her cancelling of the Board Election in November 2020, which the Governor has ordered a special election correcting that miscarriage of justice. We also believe the targeted, coordinated scheme- the conspiracy between Florence One and Superintendent Spearman to drain students from Florence Four in order to kill the district is criminal- unlawful, unethical and immoral. We believe it violates state and federal law. Our attorney will be addressing the Board's concern." Dr. Gary L. Burgess, Sr., Spokesperson, Florence County School District Four Board of Trustees
