Effingham Wood Pellet Update

Overwhelmingly opposed! That was the message and voice of the people at the DHEC Virtual Public Hearing on June 17th, for the Effingham Pellets, LLC Air Permit Application. 18 people spoke up loud and clear that they oppose the approval of the air permit for Effingham Pellets, LLC.

In sum, over 1240 written public comments have been submitted so far. This is incredible! Effingham is a community of over 11,000 people and Florence County of around 138,293. Can we show the true number of people who are opposed to the pollution of our air and communities like this? There is still time to submit a written public comment. The public has through July 1st at 5 pm EST to submit.

What are the next steps? DHEC did not take a stance. They will be making a decision once all comments come in on July 1st at which one we have up to 15 days to appeal the decision. The recording of the hearing will be made available before July 1. The files are available in the meantime.
