Broadband Is Infrastructure

Broadband internet connects all of us, especially in the middle of a pandemic when we rely on it for distance learning, telehealth appointments, and working from home.
But more than 30 million Americans live in areas that don’t have access to broadband at acceptable speeds, and even where broadband infrastructure does exist, many Americans can’t afford it. In our state, more than 12% of South Carolinians don’t have access and more than half live in areas where there’s only one provider.
Here’s how that plays out in tangible terms: I’ve heard from South Carolina families whose children do schoolwork in the parking lots of libraries and fast food restaurants in order to use the WiFi connection.
But there’s good news: President Biden has proposed an ambitious infrastructure plan that would make reliable, affordable, high-speed broadband available to every American.
Our Democratic House Majority and the Biden Administration are working together to dramatically expand broadband and make America’s greatness accessible and affordable to all. But the progress we’re building hinges on maintaining control of the House -- if you are able, will you make a contribution to protect and expand our Majority?
President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is an opportunity to not only build back our country following the pandemic but to build it back better and in a way that brings everyone along -- not just a select few at the top.
As the head of the Rural Broadband Task Force, I’ve been dreaming of a bold plan like this to close the digital divide for a long time.
The American Jobs Plan would work in conjunction with a bill I introduced that would make big investments to bring broadband to communities without any access, with unacceptable internet speeds, or that can’t afford the plans available to them -- particularly rural, tribal, and low-income communities.
Bold and transformative legislation like this is only possible with control of the House, and your grassroots contributions give us the resources to build a strong organization so we can elect Democrats to protect and expand our Majority. If you are able, please consider contributing today.
