October 16, 2025

Florence, S.C.
Wanda Govan, director of Darlington-Lee Adult Education, earned recognition as a “Workforce Hero” by the Pee Dee Workforce Board’s SC Works Committee. The announcement came in late September during the Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments’ (PDRCOG) Fourth Annual Success Summit held at the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing Technology on the campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College.
The Success Summit celebrates Workforce Development Month, a nationally recognized observance honoring the contributions of professionals who support job seekers and employers across the state. Each September, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW) recognizes outstanding Workforce Heroes. These individuals demonstrate energy, excellence, and dedication in serving their communities.
This year, six exceptional professionals were nominated from across the Pee Dee:
Wanda Govan, director, Darlington-Lee Adult Education
Connie Mason, PDRCOG, Innovation Grant outreach coordinator
Dianne Herrington, PDRCOG, Business & Industry coordinator
Patrick Rogers, SC Vocational Rehabilitation, Business Development specialist
Tawanda Epps, Eckerd Connects, site manager, SC Works Darlington and Florence Centers
Hugh Stanton, SCDEW, Employment Services business consultant
Govan earned selection from a subcommittee of the Pee Dee Workforce Board’s SC Works Committee and will be recognized by the State Workforce Development Board in December.
The award honorees “embody a spirit of service and make a difference through dedication and passion,” said representatives from the Pee Dee Workforce Board.
The Darlington County School District named Govan director of Adult Education in June 2024. Her experience in education includes serving as a classroom teacher, a curriculum coordinator, a master teacher, a Title 1 school facilitator, and an adult education coordinator.
