A Giant Step Forward for Public Safety

Public safety is always a top priority. We recently made a giant leap forward with the passage of a Bond Reform Bill that will help keep violent offenders off the streets while they await trial. We have all heard of tragic events happening too many times where someone is attacked or even killed by an assailant who had a record of committing violent crimes yet were still allowed to walk the streets.
I spearheaded the unanimous passage in the Senate of a Bond Reform Bill. If a suspect of a violent, gun-related crime is arrested again while awaiting trial, the bond will be immediately revoked ensuring they are not back on the streets. Law enforcement provided input into the drafting of the Bill, and they say this will help stop the “revolving door” of criminals being charged and released over and over again.
I worked closely with key members of the Senate Republican Caucus, with the support of Governor Henry McMaster, on the bill along with many other Republicans and Democrats in the Senate. The safety of our residents should not know party lines, and I was pleased we were all able to come together to make this important policy change.
As always, thank you for the honor of letting me be our community’s voice in the State Senate. I’m working hard every day for common-sense reform and to make sure our area isn’t overlooked when it comes to our local projects being funded. Thank you for your trust and please reach out to me with any suggestions, questions, or concerns.
