This year at the 88th Carolina Cup, one local woman used the opportunity to unite minority women around the state for a day of brunch, big hats, horse racing, and to launch the Southern Women’s Philanthropy Conference.
Necola Hemphill, founder of the Southern Women’s Philanthropy Conference is known around the state as a woman who has a big passion for connecting people and advocating for positive change. Necola has worked in Winsboro, Columbia, Sumter, and now the rural community of Camden. Necola has always been one to advocate for those who face adversities and disparities.
Friends, family, and other non-profit leaders gathered for a great afternoon filled with delicious foods to include lamb, salmon, pico de gallo and other delicacies while networking and celebrating the launch of the Southern Women’s Philanthropy Conference. NE Coalition Empowerment Founder, Jonnika Farr, friend of Necola, came out to support and states she is, “totally excited about the venture Necola is spearheading, highlighting African America women in rural communities who are doing community driven work.” She feels African American women play a great role in advocating for change around the state.
