City Of Florence Proclaims July 29th - July 31, 2022 As Singleton Family Reunion Weekend

The Honorable Teresa Myers Ervin, Mayor of the City of Florence, has proclaimed the 29th day of July 2022 through the 31st day of July 2022 as Singleton Family Reunion Weekend!
“Our Roots Run Deep” in Florence and we are coming home, from the North, South, East and West to celebrate and to honor our ancestors. The committee has prepared what we hope to be a festive weekend filled with food, fun, fellowship and laughter.

We are the proud ancestors of Marcus and Amy Singleton. Marcus was born in Effingham, SC in 1853. He and Amy were the parents of 18. They raised their family in the Friendfield Community of Florence County, where many descendants still live and work today.

From slavery to freedom, our ancestors toiled the farming fields of South Carolina as laborers and sharecroppers. Their children became farmers, barbers, and preachers, and served in the military.

Included in our family is New York Giants Great, NFL Hall of Famer, Harry Carson, who is the great grandson of Marcus and Amy. In the recent 2022 NFL draft, the great-great grandson of Marcus and Amy, Decobie Durant was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams.
