If Democracy Is An Experiment, Make The Last Part Better Than The Beginning

This week, we feel compelled to write about how some of our Senators chose to handle Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing.
Many words come to mind as we consider how she was treated, and demoralizing seems to be the one that most appropriately describes the treatment. We want to go on record as saying the Senator from South Carolina lived up to our expectations.
Senator Graham has shown himself to be the vilest and most repugnant individual South Carolina could have chosen to have represent us. But represent us he does, in the most salacious manner possible. We hoped his win in the last election has not done this to him, but what he is doing is showing the people of South Carolina how far off course we are. And, if any of you good republicans didn't realize what you did when you voted to have him represent our state, then take note of what you've got serving us in such a critical time.
When we think about Senator Graham's behavior, the thought comes to mind of something we heard in a discussion among republicans. That discussion centered around why they vote for certain people considering the persons' shortcomings and actual faults. As a legitimate “get around” they simply posited that they hold their noses and vote for them because of the party.
Well, I'm telling you if that is what they did in the case of Senator Graham, then it is conceivable the holding of the nose could be the remedy for accepting anything vile and unconscionable. We could go through some of the other, unacceptable behaviors but that would only cause you to relive some of the worse theater broadcasts lately. What they have single-handed done is demonstrated to the American people what can happen when the good people of our nation give way to the scum of the earth.
Politicians have literally sold their souls to the company store. If America wants to take something back they might want to consider taking back its’ role as leader of the free world. Or, are our citizens not mindful that such tasteless media gets seen in other countries? We'd say it appears that America was competing to show itself as the nation to follow, if you are interested in being seen as one of the holdover nations that just can't get beyond racism and bigotry.
It's about time we ordinary citizens rise up and demand our government move in a way that is designed to show we are trying to accomplish something other than division. It almost seems as though some folks have genuinely adopted the philosophy of divide and concur. We don't know about you, but we have chosen to see America from a different perspective. One where we are the leaders on the world stage showing what a country can be. Our people could come together and unify around the ideas embodied in our constitution and preamble. Although the constitution was not written with “all of us” in mind, through the agony of centuries it has grown through hope, faith, love, and trial and tribulations to become something we all can look to with a certain amount of dignity. Never again should we need to cede to the baser elements in our society and give way to what we had to endure during the confirmation hearing for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
America, we are better than that! So, we are calling on all decent folk everywhere to take a stand for righteousness and begin to do the right thing. Come together and make America the city that sits on a hill. We are not saying that as just a punch line, but as a heartfelt desire. Let's make whatever time we have left count. Let's paint a portrait of unity and togetherness that the world has never seen before. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to see what we have become for us to want something better. There is nothing too hard for GOD. WAKE UP!
Food For Thought: if democracy really is an experiment, then why not make the last part better than the first?
Sincerely Yours,
Hoping for a better tomorrow.
