Trae Hannibal Shines During First And Second Rounds Of NCAA March Madness

Former Hartsville High School standout Trae Hannibal, a 6’2” guard, played in the second round of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament last Saturday against St. Peter’s. Hannibal, a native of Elliott, South Carolina, transferred to Murray State University from the University of South Carolina, where he played for former coach Frank Martin.

Hannibal joins the Racers from South Carolina and has three seasons of eligibility with the Racers. In the 2020-21 season, he saw action in 20 games for USC and scored 6.0 points per game, grabbed 3.2 rebounds, and dished out 40 assists. He had four games of double-digit scoring, including back-to-back 15-point games against Missouri and Georgia, in which he hit a combined 12-of-14 shots from the field. As a freshman in 2019-20, he averaged 4.0 points per game, along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals. In the first round game against the San Francisco Dons, Hannibal scored 18 points, and in the second round loss to Saint Peter’s, Hannibal added 10 points.

Hannibal had a decorated prep career at Hartsville High School, where he was the state's co-Player of the Year in class 4A in the 2018-19 season and was named the Player of the Year by the Florence Morning News. After scoring 26.8 points per game in his senior season, he finished his career with over 1,500 points. He had 62 points and 20 rebounds in his final high school game.
