Florence County School District Four Board Of Trustees Says Superintendent Molly Spearman Avoiding The Press

by Dr. Gary L. Burgess, Sr., Spokesperson, Florence County School District Four Board of Trustees

What follows is a copy of a text State Superintendent Molly Spearman sent to one of the Florence Four board members after the February 2, 2022 “clandestine” meeting. Now we know this was to avoid notifying the press.
Representatives of the Florence Four Board did not know what the meeting was about, and were not given an agenda beforehand. Spearman has not spoken with, or updated, the Florence Four Board or the Florence Four Community since becoming involved with Florence Four following the "emergency" take over in 2018.
According to our representatives, the representatives from Florence One Chair Stewart, Vice Chair Caulder, District Superintendent O'Malley and the representatives from the SCSBA, were prepared for the meeting as was Superintendent Spearman's team.
I have been informed the meeting did not go well. The Florence Four representatives did not recommend, suggest or agree to anything.
It's concerning how Superintendent Spearman avoided informing the media with regard to a matter central to the taxpayers in Florence Four, Florence County and by extension all of South Carolina. The citizens have a right to know. Apparently, such meetings are held by Spearman on a regular basis so as not to technically have to inform the media.

The text exchange is listed below:

“Mr. McFadden: I see that you have called this morning. I would return your call; however, I received emails from Ms. Joe, Board Chair and Dr. Burgess on Wednesday, Feb 2, that a complaint had been filed against me and that no meetings, [or] discussions should be held with any individual on Florence 4 board without the spokesperson or attorney present. I would be happy to speak with you but will not do so after that directive.
At 1 pm on Wednesday, the SC School Boards Association assisted in organizing a call between Florence 1 and 4. I insisted that you be invited; however, Ms. Joe would only invite officers of the board.

I relented and thought the chair, vice chair and secretary would be on the call. Only Ms. Joe and Mr. Echols attended. We had a good update including the status of what has been done over the past few weeks. You can get that information from Ms. Joe.

Dr. O'Malley and Ms. Mack are working quickly to give and receive information to families and staff.

Any questions should be made through Ms. Joe.

I will not meet with your spokesperson

Thank you, Molly Spearman”

This is what the citizens of Florence Four have had to tolerate from Superintendent Spearman for the past several years: being ambushed by her and her enablers.
