Obituary for Rachel Johnson

Deaconess Rachel Johnson, daughter of the late Primus and Rosanna Singletary, was born on June 24, 1933 in Saint Stephens, South Carolina. She was the fifth oldest, out of twelve children. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Deaconess Rachel receive her education at Saint Stephens Elementary School and Saint Stephens High School in Berkeley County.

At a tender age, she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and joined Saint Stephens Baptist Church.

Deaconess Rachel was united in holy matrimony to James Johnson on July 28, 1954 and from that union they were blessed with three children, Gilbert, Bernard and Quinette. They were married for 65 years, before the love of her life went home to be with the Lord.

After migrating to New York City, Rachel and James joined Canaan Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend E. M. Moore, where they served faithfully for many years.

Deaconess Rachel was employed by the New York City Board of Education in 1966, where she worked in the public school system for several years. She later worked as a home attendant in East Harlem until her retirement.

After her husband’s retirement from the New York City Transit Authority, they relocated to Florence, South Carolina in 1988 , where they found their new church home, joining New Ebenezer Baptist Church, where they served for 28 years.

Deaconess Rachel served as a Deaconess, who ministered alongside her husband, visiting the sick and shut in. She also serviced on the church’s kitchen committee preparing meals and baking cakes for various church functions. She loved to cook, clean and attend to her garden. She also loved to share the fruits of her labor with family and friends.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Primus and Rosanna; her loving husband, James; her eldest son, Gilbert; one brother, Herbert Singletary; six sisters, Angela Singletary, Sadie Mouzon, Agnes Rodgers, Rebecca Cooper, Georgia Mae Washington, and Ruby Jones Baker.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a son, Bernard “Bernie” (Jacquie) Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina; daughter, Quinette “Net” (Edwin) Serrano of Jersey City, New Jersey; one granddaughter, Ashia Johnson of Cary, North Carolina; one great-grand daughter, Alexis Freeman of Cary, North Carolina; one sister, Leona Bessent; three brothers, Isaac Singletary of Saint Stephens, South Carolina, Roscoe (Leonisa) Singletary of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Robert Lee (Yvonne) Singletary of Saint Stephens, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Willie Mouzon of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, many many honorary family, and friends.

Obituary for Georgianna McCall

Ms. Georgianna McCall was born on April 6, 1936 in Florence, South Carolina to the late William, Sr. and Ruth McCall. She departed this life and was called to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Georgianna attended the public schools of Florence, South Carolina.

She was employed in the Domestic and Healthcare field at various locations. She was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Florence, South Carolina.

Georgianna was a straight talker; she said what she meant and meant what she said.

In addition to her parents, Georgianna was preceded in death by three sisters: Sadie M. Jordan, Elouise Fortune, and Gracie M. White; five brothers: Ulysses McCall, Armstrong McCall, James (Tracey) McCall, William McCall, Jr., and Rufus Allen McCall.

Those left to cherish her precious memories include three daughters: Emma Jean McCall Henry, Yvette Deloris McCall Jackson both of Florence, South Carolina and Yvonne Denise McCall of Columbia, South Carolina; nine grandchildren: Hope (Spencer) Hanna, Brigitte Henry, Anwar Henry, Solo Abdul Henry all of Florence, South Carolina., Donte McCall of Sumter, South Carolina, Ieshia Dixon of Columbia, South Carolina, Sholonda McCall Jackson of Florence, South Carolina, Warren D. (Trina) McCall of Richmond, Virginia, and Zachquan “Sammie” McCall of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother: Tim (Barbara) McCall of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters: Earline Taylor and Linda McCall both of Meriden, Connecticut; eighteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Monique Brown; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many others.

Obituary for John Dow

A conversation transpired between two, the Lord and John. They concluded that John’s work was done, and together they traveled on the wings of a dove to the other shore.

Mr. John Weston Dow was born the son of the late Lee W. Dow and Arie Dow Conyers in Clarendon County, South Carolina on March 6, 1961.

He joined Gum Springs Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, was baptized, and sung on the choir. He was the lead guitarist for the Family Gospel Singers.

He attended the public schools in Sumter, South Carolina. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for 5 years before receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Upon relocating to Sumter, South Carolina, John attended the Police Academy. After graduating, he joined the Sumter Police Department and later the Darlington County Police Department.

He later gained employmentat Galey & Lord, LLC in Society Hill, South Carolina and was currently employed with O’Reilly Auto Parts in Hartsville, South Carolina.

On Friday morning, February 4, 2022, the Heavenly trumpets, sounded and God in His infinite wisdom summoned John Weston Dow to eternal rest. Life has a single beginning, but a multiplicity of endings. We do not know the day, the hour, the minute, or the way of our departure. Nor do we know the mystery in the work of the Master, who is too knowledgeable to make mistakes with His own creation-man.

John was preceded in death by his father, Lee W. Dow; a brother, Lee E. Dow; and a son, Marcel Ervin.

Those left to cherish his precious memories: a loving wife of 27 years, Nora McManus Dow of Hartsville, South Carolina; four daughters, Sebrena S. Dow, Felicia (Wendell) Davis, Chantel James, and Angela Knox all of Hartsville, South Carolina; two sons, Farsih S. Ervin and Peter G. Ervin both of Hartsville, South Carolina; a loving mother, Arie Dow (Albertus) Conyers of Sumter, South Carolina; nine sisters, Annie (Reverend Dr. O. J.) Mr. Kenneth “KT” Tumblin was born June 10,1963 to Sylvia Tumblin and the late Robert Tumblin, Jr.

Kenneth was educated in the Florence County school system and was a graduate of Timmonsville High School class of 1981.

Kenneth was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was employed with Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for over a decade. He spent many years perfecting his craft as a painter and took great pride in his work.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents, Ms. Emma Price, Sylvester Blakely, Mrs. Pauline and Robert Tumblin, Sr.; one brother, Curtis Blakely; six aunts, Joyce Helen Simon, Geraldene McLeod, Geedell Dubose, Lynette Thompson, Effie Mae Lyde and Lisa Blakely; five uncles, Frank Tumblin, John Tumblin, Jessie King, Roosevelt Price and Willie King.

Obituary for Willie Jerome Wilson, Jr.

Willie Jerome Wilson Jr. was born on April 7, 1971, to Willie Jerome Wilson Sr. and Vivian Wilamina who proceeded him in death.

Will was called to be with the Lord on February 3, 2022, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Will was educated through Richland One school district and graduated from C.A. Johnson High School. Will took courses in business administration at Midlands Technical College.

Will has truck driving in his blood, and has always had a passion for trucks, his dad taught him how to drive a truck at the age of 13. He made a career as a truck driver and started his own trucking company “Excaliber Transport” in 2015. Will affectionately called his truck “Ghost” which was decked out with Clemson colors.

Will loved to watch football and always rooted for the underdogs. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles and was a die hard Clemson fan. Will loved to cook and he would always have plenty of food for everyone, he had a dreams of starting his own food truck

If he wasn't on the road or preparing large meals he was mostly a homebody. He loves spending time with his wife watching movies and going on date nights. Will would do anything to see Arpeja happy. Will had the biggest heart! He would do anything for anyone, if he loved you he would do everything in his power to help you.
