Mike Reichenbach took one step closer to becoming the new Senator for SC Senate District 31 on Tuesday , January 25, 2022 defeating Jay Jordan in a special Republican primary election.

Rep. Jay Jordan and businessman Mike Reichenbach were running to replace former Senator Hugh Leatherman, who held the seat for 41 years.

While Rep. Jay Jordan had the support of powerful political leaders, Mike Reichenbach had the voices of the people in the region. Reichenbach had name recongnition as a business leader who advertises daily with local television stations in the region. While conservative business leaders, educational leaders, and even Sen. Hugh Leatherman’s widow, Jean Leatherman were publicly backing Rep. Jordan, leaving some polilical observers to wonder who controls the power base in the Pee Dee, and what that means for the rest of the state of South Carolina.
