I am tremendously pleased to see the news headline that Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban has joined other well-known sports personalities encouraging US Senators Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and others to support the passage of the voting rights bill. I applaud Coach Saban's willingness to speak out and lead on what is right and just for all citizens of our great country.

The South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus calls for the head coaches at our top programs that include Dabo Swinney – Clemson University, Shane Beamer – the University of South Carolina, and Jamey Chadwell – Coastal Carolina, to join the list of sports leaders in encouraging the immediate passage of this vital piece of legislation.

Many of us still remember a time in this country when we were deeply divided on issues of equality, justice, and the right to vote for all Americans. It was athletics and sports that helped change the views of many and unite us as a country. We all cheer for our favorite teams, players, and coaches when competing. SCLBC strongly believes we must all cheer and support Americans' access to the most sacred right we share as Americans, the right to vote.
